MUTON ANAK KAIS
A Bidayuh artist born in the Land of Hornbills, Muton is a prolific, renowned impressionist and abstract expressionist painter. He graduated with a degree in Arts and teaches art in high school in Bau, Sarawak. Muton’s upbringing was greatly influenced by his culture, traditions and beliefs of the ethnic tribe to which he belongs and his immediate surroundings of natural elements - forest, river, jungle, stream, mountain. The design of his works lean towards abstract, some with representational elements, emanating from his feelings towards nature and what he sees around him in daily life. He uses vivid colours and lines to create the life and movement in his paintings and textured memories of his innermost passions through unique expressions. He has participated in many art festivals and exhibitions all over Sarawak as well as Kuala Lumpur. Many of his paintings are found in corporate offices, Sarawak Art Museum, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and international collections.
